SINGAPORE: Safuwan Baharudin kept his place in Melbourne City FC’s starting line-up, but had to endure a 1-0 defeat at Central Coast Mariners on Sunday (Mar 8). A 74th-minute strike from Fabio Ferrera gave the home side all three points.
Singapore international Safuwan, who featured for the entire 90 minutes, was deployed in an unfamiliar role at left-back by Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip and was one of four players booked in a lacklustre match. The result means Melbourne City drop a place to seventh in the Hyundai A-League with 24 points after 19 games. Perth Glory continue to lead the 10-team league with 37 points after 20 matches.
Safuwan is on a three-month loan from LionsXII and scored his first goal for Melbourne in last month’s 3-1 win over Adelaide United.
