Missed the thrills and spills in Singapore's only professional football league? Here's a quick recap of the action of the past week, where DPMM crashed to a third straight loss
WOODLANDS WELLINGTON 0-2 TANJONG PAGAR UNITED
(Monsef Zerka 60', Hafiz Ozman 80')
The Jaguars claimed a much-needed win over the hosts, who had sat out Week 14. The extended rest did not do the Rams much good as the visitors ended a run of over two months without victory. Zerka struck his fourth of the season with a rasping drive on the hour mark to put his team ahead, before Hafiz strode forward late on to bullet a header off Sebastien Etiemble's perfect cross and seal the points.
BALESTIER KHALSA 1-1 ALBIREX NIIGATA (S)
(Ruhaizad Ismail 89' | Soichiro Tanaka 20')
The White Swans stumbled yet again in their title quest, following last week's 1-0 loss to Hougang. This time, the Japanese side failed to build on Tanaka's sweet low strike, despite creating enough chances to put the game to bed. They were punished when Ruhaizad stepped up with a blockbuster free-kick from 30 yards to salvage a point for the Tigers.
HOUGANG UNITED 3-2 WARRIORS FC
(Igor Cerina 18', 70', Fazli Jaffar 54' | Miroslav Pejic 8', Nicolas Velez 61')
An end-to-end, enthralling goal-fest at Hougang Stadium saw the Cheetahs triumph against the high-flying Warriors. Victory would have seen the uniformed giants go top of the table for at least 24 hours, but the hosts had other ideas. Cerina was the star of the show, popping up with a crucial brace. His first cancelled out Pejic's opener, with the latter also creating Velez's goal after Fazli had given Hougang the lead. The Croatian defender had the final say, glancing a corner beyond Hassan Sunny to seal the upset win.
COURTS YOUNG LIONS 0-0 GEYLANG INTERNATIONAL
After an incredible 86 games, the S.League finally saw its first goal-less draw of the 2014 season in the 87th tie of the campaign. The Eagles, who beat defending champions Tampines Rovers on the same ground three days ago, could not find a way past the resolute Young Lions. The opposite was true too, however, with both teams having to settle for one point each in the end.
TAMPINES ROVERS 2-1 BRUNEI DPMM
(Kunihiro Yamashita 59', Noh Alam Shah 69' | Rodrigo Tosi 45')
The defending champions showed their mettle, as coach Rafi Ali put it after the game, as they stormed back from a goal down to topple the league leaders. The Stags had the better of the game from the get go but found themselves behind when Tosi headed in his 14th of the season on the stroke of half-time. No matter, as the hosts came back stronger after the break and Yamashita crashed home a header from Shahdan Sulaiman's corner to level. Then, the playmaker played a superb through ball for Alam Shah, who clinically placed his first-time shot into the bottom corner to seal three precious points.
HOME UNITED 3-1 HARIMAU MUDA B
(Qiu Li 5', Bruno Castanheira 13', Fazrul Nawaz 22' | Ramzi Sufian 27')
The Protectors took full advantage of DPMM's loss as they cruised to victory over the Young Tigers. Qiu got the ball rolling with a looping header off Lee Kwan Woo's corner, before turning provider to release Castanheira. The Brazilian-Japanese coolly slotted beyond the goalkeeper and it was three when Lee played a stunning no-look ball for Indra Sahdan, who laid it on a plate for Fazrul to tap home. It could have been a rout, but Ramzi headed in to reduce the deficit just before the half-hour and that was strangely the end of the scoring.
